Professional Development for
Experienced Teachers

The BEST Program offers several opportunities for experienced teachers to become involved in the induction of beginning teachers.  Your choices include the following (you may click on a training name to view a list of available courses):

  • Serving as a Portfolio Scorer for Summer 2008 -  This training is for experienced teachers in each of the portfolio content areas who have been invited to become scorers.

  • Mentor Training: Initial Support Teacher Training  -  This three-day training is for those teachers selected by their district to serve as BEST mentors.

  • Beginning Teacher Seminars - Mentors are invited to accompany the beginning teacher they support to the two-session seminars designed to assist teachers as they prepare their portfolio.

  • Portfolio Support Training  (all content areas)-  This is a one-day training session.  It serves as an update on the portfolio assessment, for previously trained mentors, and as an introduction to the portfolio assessment for other colleagues or administrators.  You will be trained to work with beginning teachers and gain a fuller understanding of the portfolio process.  Trained portfolio scorers would not need to attend this.

  • Mentor Training for Portfolio Scorers -  This one-day training is for currently trained portfolio scorers selected by their district to serve as BEST Mentors.

  • Mentor Seminar Series - A three-part series designed to support mentors in the vital role they play in promoting the professional development of beginning teachers.  This is open to all mentors.
