 Ø

WINTER - YEAR ONE

Administrators who support planned, ongoing interactions between mentors and beginning teachers are facilitating professional growth opportunities for both individuals. Administrators should encourage development and implementation of action plans such as the following.

• Review/discuss CCT. What do the standards look like in the classroom? Do self-assessments to identify areas that need support.
• Begin weekly or biweekly coaching for effective teaching practice, using “Conversation Points” to shift focus of conversations from procedural to instructional issues.
• Continue observations.
• Practice videotaping and analyzing tape. (Mentor may model reflection by videotaping his or her own
class and analyzing instruction and student learning with beginning teacher.)
• Review mid-term procedures and procedures for snow days.
• Access the BEST online learning units together. Use strategies from the “Mentor Corner” and discuss
the activities and follow-up learning opportunities.
• Register for CSDE BEST regional spring seminar.
