Over the last decade, a growing body of research has indicated that the single most critical factor affecting student achievement is the quality of the teacher. Since the mid-1980s, Connecticut has recognized that strong induction programs help improve the instructional effectiveness of novice teachers as well as help retain them in the profession. Principals play an important role in this process by serving as instructional leaders and facilitators of the induction process at the school level.

An Administrator’s Guide to New Teacher Induction has been developed to provide support and guidance for administrators who desire to support novice teachers and to develop professional learning communities within their schools. It provides information that can help you use BEST resources to promote instructional and professional practices that are consistent with the Common Core of Teaching and district Teacher Evaluation and Professional Development Plans.
